This is the concept underpinning “Barrique, the third age of wood”, an Ermenegildo Zegna Group project in collaboration with Comunità di San Patrignano and Letizia Moratti. Launched in 2012, its main aim is the recycling of barrels and recovery of people through the creation of a permanent collection, which now has over 40 design works. Each of them is a one-off piece designed by well known architects and designers made by hand by young people in the San Patrignano Design Lab. The collection has now been enriched by a new work, Baco, which is a stool made entirely out of wooden barrel staves. The inspiration behind it is the rounded form of silk worms. It creates a fascinating play of color, with contrasts between the purple color inside and the pale oak outside. The work was designed by the internationally renowned Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola, who has thus joined a long list of notable names associated with the project, such as Karim Rashid, Alessandro Mendini, Michele De Lucchi, Carlo Colombo, Daniel Libeskind, Aldo Cibic and Mario Botta.
