A “1st viola” who blossomed in 2012 and has since shown all his talent and is about to build on this in 2016. His name is Enrico Carraro, the brilliant winner of the “Orchestra del Teatro Regio 1st Viola Competition” organized by Turin’s opera house and Fondazione Zegna. He was taken on by the Piemonte theater thanks to the innovative direct sponsoring adopted by Fondazione Zegna, based on a formula widely used in the English speaking world. Launched four years ago, the project aims to support the artistic development of the Orchestra del Regio and thereby help promote the values and excellence of music in Italy. An objective pursued in step with the Theater’s constant evolution, made possible above all by the passionate dedication of its music director, Gianandrea Noseda. Following the rich 2015 calendar, which closed on 6 December with “Karenina, a ballet by Boris Eifman – The Eifman Ballet Company, St. Petersburg”, the 2016 calendar is looking even more exciting. Here are next year’s events:   9-21 February Tosca, by Giacomo Puccini, conducted by Roberto Abbado   13 February Symphony-choral concert conducted by Roberto Abbado   26 February-4 March Hong Kong tour (Simon Boccanegra and three symphony-choral concerts conducted by Roberto Abbado and Gianandrea Noseda)   11-22 May Lucia di Lammermoor, by Gaetano Donizetti, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda   Paris, 27 May – Essen, 29 May Tour in Paris and Essen (Lucia di Lammermoor in concert form conducted by Gianandrea Noseda)   2-6 August 2016 On tour at the Savonlinna Festival (La Bohème and Norma, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda).
